The Sumela Monastery, Trabzon – The 1000-year-old Monastery from the Virgin Mary at Sumela, with it’s mountain setting, clinging to a sheer rock cliff in the midst of evergreen forests, could possibly be the most impressive sight on Turkey’s Black Sea coast. Two Athenian monks built the Monastery within the fourth century AD also it can be easily visited over a day trip from Trabzon.

Saint Paul’s Church, Tarsus – A recently available announcement by the Catholic Church has added one more reason to visit Turkey’s Christian sites; Pope Benedict officially launched the Vatican’s “Year of St. Paul” on June 28th, celebrating one of Jesus’ most significant disciples. Paul was created 2,000 in the past in Tarsus, southern Turkey near Mersin. This can be a rare and different possibility to experience a religious service in St. Paul’s Church. Services will likely be offered throughout the year.

The Seven Churches in the Apocalypse – In Revelation, Jesus instructs his servant John to: “Write in a book what thou seest, and send it unto the seven churches that are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.” – Revelation 1:11
